Student Auto Skills Update

Greetings from AAA and welcome to the new AAA Student Auto Skills Update! First off, I would like to personally thank you for your continued support of the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition. As part of AAA’s commitment to automotive excellence, we have been a proud sponsor of the Auto Skills program for 25 years. We know that, without instructors like you, none of it would be possible.

We recognize the hard work that you put into teaching your students and helping them to compete in the Auto Skills program. For that reason we have created this newsletter in order to provide you with a convenient resource for the information you need. In it you will find competition information/deadlines, news and research, and questions/comments from instructors in the automotive industry.

If you have ideas or concerns about the Auto Skills program, please let us know by contacting John Morse, manager, Student Auto Skills, (407) 444-7762. One of the goals of this newsletter is to share information that we receive from instructors like you. On behalf of our 51 million members and more than 8,000 Approved Auto Repair shops, thank you for making a difference!

2009 State Competition Registration
It's Not Too Late!

The registration deadline is fast approaching for the 2009 Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills State Qualifying Exams. Applications are due December 10, 2008. Access the application materials at AutoSkills.com.

In 2008, there were over $7 million awarded in scholarship opportunities for automotive technology students. For 2009, there is no limit to the number of students that can take the exam. Sponsors have graciously provided several automotive diagnostic and hand tools for students taking the exam. One of the exam questions will be the qualifier. If correctly answered, the student's name will be submitted for a drawing to win the tools.

For more information, contact Marshall Townsend, technical coordinator,
(407) 444-8378.
