AAA Approval Requirements for Lodgings

Lodgings selected for AAA evaluation are observed for curbside appeal, exterior, and other fundamental factors to verify its appeal to members.

If satisfied, the inspector meets with the property representative for a brief interview to gather factual data and information about any plans for improvement.

Next, the inspector tours the property with the representative, verifying the AAA/CAA Approval Requirements and Diamond Rating Guidelines. The inspector discusses strengths and weaknesses of the property in relation to the guidelines.

The overall evaluation process includes the review of six key areas:

  bullet Cleanliness and condition

Management and staff

Exterior, grounds, and public areas

Guest room decor, ambiance, and amenities

Bathrooms

Guest services (if applicable)

Certain areas are rated with a pass/fail mark, while others are graded on a scale. For details on the marks properties must receive in each of these areas to be AAA Approved, refer to "The AAA Evaluation and Diamond Rating Process" in Section One, P. 4-5 of Lodging Approval Requirements & Diamond Rating Guidelines (pdf) - Revised November 2007.
